What does beard oil do
Beard oil conditions the skin underneath your beard and softens the hair growing out of it. That’s the whole job. It stops the itch, reduces the flaking people call beardruff, makes coarse hair manageable, and adds a low natural shine. It does not grow your beard, thicken it, or fill in patches — those are set by genetics and hormones, and no oil changes them.
The four things it actually does
1. Stops the itch
The itch is the reason most beards get shaved off in week three, and it is a skin problem rather than a hair problem.
As facial hair grows, it wicks the skin’s natural oils along its length. The skin underneath ends up drier than the skin anywhere else on your face, and dry skin itches. Short stubble makes it worse, because the freshly cut ends are blunt and abrasive against the skin they’re sitting on.
Beard oil replaces what the beard takes. It’s the most immediate and noticeable thing it does — usually within a day or two.
2. Reduces beardruff
Beardruff is the flaking that lands on your shirt, and it’s dry skin shedding from under the beard rather than anything to do with the hair. Condition the skin and the flaking reduces.
If the flaking is persistent, greasy, yellowish, or comes with visible redness, that may be seborrheic dermatitis rather than dryness — and that needs a doctor, not an oil.
3. Softens coarse hair
Facial hair is structurally different from the hair on your head — thicker, with a rounder cross-section and a rougher cuticle. That’s why beards feel wiry and why they’re hard to shape.
Oil smooths the hair cuticle, so the hair lies flatter, tangles less, and takes a comb properly. On a coarse or curly beard this is the difference between something you can shape and something that does what it wants.
4. Adds shine and makes it look fuller
Coated hair reflects light evenly and lies in the same direction, which reads as denser and healthier.
Worth being precise about this, because the category oversells it constantly: your beard looks fuller because the hairs lie better, not because there are more of them. The visual improvement is real. The mechanism is optical, not biological.
What beard oil does not do
It does not grow your beard. Beard density, growth rate and pattern are determined by genetics and androgen sensitivity at the follicle. A cosmetic oil works on the hair shaft and the skin surface, and neither of those is where growth happens.
It does not fill in patches. If you have a gap on your cheek line, oil will not close it.
It does not thicken individual hairs permanently. It wraps them, which increases apparent diameter while the product is on.
It is not a treatment for a skin condition. Persistent redness, sore patches, pustules along the jaw or spreading flaking need a doctor.

Does beard oil work?
For what it’s designed to do, yes, and quickly.
Itch and dryness improve within a day or two. Softness and manageability improve over a week or two of consistent use. Beardruff usually settles within a couple of weeks.
For growth, no — and any product promising it is either overclaiming or is a drug rather than a cosmetic.
Who gets the most from it: anyone in the first month of growing, anyone with coarse or curly facial hair, anyone with dry skin or in a cold climate, and anyone with a beard past about an inch.
Who needs it least: very oily skin with short stubble. Use less, or use it only after washing.
How to use it
Short version: clean, towel-dried beard; two to ten drops depending on length; warm between the palms; skin first, then out through the hair; comb through.

REUZEL’s beard oil
REUZEL Beard Serum is our beard oil — named a serum because it’s lightweight and fast-absorbing rather than heavy. Two to three drops depending on length soften the beard, with a non-greasy finish and a low shine.
Shea butter and argan oil condition, apricot oil and vitamin E handle dryness and flaking, and calendula suits sensitive skin. It comes in one fragrance, Clean & Fresh. It doubles as a pre-shave oil.

Frequently asked questions
What does beard oil do? It conditions the skin underneath the beard and softens the hair growing out of it. That stops the itch, reduces flaking, makes coarse hair manageable and adds a low natural shine. It does not affect how your beard grows.
What is beard oil for? For the dryness a beard causes. Facial hair draws the skin’s natural oils along its length, leaving the skin underneath drier than the rest of your face. Beard oil replaces that, which is why it solves itch and beardruff.
Does beard oil work? For conditioning, yes, and quickly — itch and dryness usually improve within a day or two, softness within a week or two. For growth, no.
What are the benefits of beard oil? Less itch, less beardruff, softer and more manageable hair, a natural low shine, and a beard that looks fuller because the hairs lie evenly rather than because there are more of them.
Does beard oil make your beard grow?
Does beard oil help with patchy beards? It improves the appearance of what you have — conditioned hair lies flatter and covers more evenly — but it will not fill a gap. Patchiness is genetic.
How long does beard oil take to work? Itch and dryness, one to two days. Softness and manageability, one to two weeks. Beardruff, around two weeks with consistent use.
Is beard oil worth it for a short beard? Yes, and arguably most worth it there. The first few weeks of growth are when the itch is worst, because short hair is at its most abrasive against the skin.
